There is no charge for membership. Application should be made at the circulation desk. Identification is required before we issue a library card. Children under 14 years must have their application signed by a parent or guardian.

Our Selection

The library has a collection of over 14,000 items including fiction, non-fiction, audio books, reference, large print, and children’s books. We also have magazines, newspapers, jigsaw puzzles, and a rental collection of recent best sellers.

Circulation Policies

Books and audio books, with the exception, of rental books and reserve books, may be checked out for two weeks.  You may check out 10 books or 6 audio books at once.  Books not on reserve may be renewed for an additional two weeks. Renewals may be made in person or by phone. Periodicals are available in house.  The library keeps one month of back issues, which may be used in the library.

Overdue Materials

The fine for overdue materials is 25 cents per day, not exceeding $10.00 for adult materials or $5.00 for children’s books. All fines must be paid before checking additional books out. Any book or other item that is lost or damaged beyond repair will be charged the replacement cost.

Rental Books

We have rental copies of Best Sellers and other new books in high demand. The charge for rental is 25 cents per day.
Reserve Book Policies

Reserve Book call and pick-up schedule:

  • Called on Monday must pick up by Tuesday at 5:00
  • Called on Wednesday must pick up by Thursday at 5:00
  • Called on Friday must pick up by Saturday at 12:30
  • If you do not or cannot pick up your book by the specified day and time, it will be put back into circulation or given to the next person on the reserve list.   You may put the book back on reserve, but will go to the end of the list.
  • We DO NOT reserve books over the phone.  You will need to come in and fill out a Reserve Slip.
  • Reserve Books (Red or Yellow dot on the back) cannot not be renewed.

Computer Use

We offer free wireless internet, a laptop computer and a printer for public use.   Pages printed from these computers will be 25 cents per page.

Photocopies and Fax Machine

We have a photocopier available for public use. There is a charge of 25 cents for a single copy and 50 cents for double sided, letter or legal size. Larger sizes or special projects will be more. A fax machine is available for public use. There is a fee of $1.00 per page for domestic faxes. We will be glad to receive your faxes. The charge is $1.00 per page for incoming faxes.
Children’s Services

At times throughout the year there are special children’s programs.  Please check at the circulation desk for the latest update of events.

Paperback Exchange

Bring in one of your own and exchange it for one of ours. No check out or return is necessary.

Given Book Shop

Used books are on sale at the Given Book Shop, located in Olmsted Village.  Their hours are Monday – Saturday, 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.  Donations of books and other materials in good condition are accepted at the library and bookstore. We do not accept outdated textbooks or condensed books.

The Tufts Archives-the Pinehurst History Museum

The Tufts Archives, located at the rear of the library, houses documents, photographs and memorabilia relating to the village of Pinehurst and the Tufts family.
